Wizkid: Biography


Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, was born on July 16, 1990. More recently, he went by Big Wiz. He is a Grammy Award–winning singer and composer from Nigeria. Before starting his own label Starboy Entertainment in 2013, Wizkid inked a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2019. Wizkid first gained notoriety on January 2, 2010, when his smash track “Holla at Your Boy” was published. The song is taken on his 2011 superstar album. At the 2011 Headies, the song won him Best Pop Single and the Next Rated prize.

He was featured on Beyonce’s 2019 smash song “Brown Skin Girl,” which came in at number one on the World Digital Song Sales list. The song is from her album “The Lion King: The Gifts.” August 24, 2020, saw the release of the music video. At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2021, The Brow Skin Girl Video took up the Best Music Video trophy.

Wizkid’s fourth studio album, “Made in Lagos,” was produced by P2J and included Tems, Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Tay Iwar, Ella Mai, Terri, and Damian Marley. It was released on October 30, 2020. After Justin Bieber’s remix of the album’s hit “Essence” was published, it became the first Nigerian song to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top ten. Wizkid surpassed all other Nigerian artists in Spotify stream counts by February 2021, with over 3.4 billion plays total across all credits.

At the 15th Headies, which took place on September 14, 2022, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Wizkid took home five prizes, making him one of the most honored musicians of the evening.

At the moment, Wizkid holds the record for the most awards in Headies history.

The essence song cover was posted on Kanye West’s Instagram profile on September 4, 2022, with the statement, “Best song in the history of music to date.”

In 2022, Wizkid will release his fifth album, More Love Less Ego.

Early Life

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his real name Wizkid, was born in Surulere, Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria. His father is Muslim, and his mother is Christian. At the tender age of eleven, Wizkid started singing in his local church after following his mother to church. He was a lead singer in addition to being a skilled vocalist.

Together with a few of his church buddies, he founded The Glorious Five, and together they were able to make a collaboration record. In 2019, Wizkid inked a record contract with Banky W’s company, Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). Since launching his record company Starboy Entertainment in March 2013, Wizkid has signed numerous musicians, including Maleek Berry, Efya, R2Bees, and many more.

Wizkid has achieved incredible global recognition and gained even more recognition after collaborating with Drake on the song “One Dance.”

In more than fifteen countries, including the US, UK, and Canada, the melody outperformed the diagram.

Wizkid is most certainly the greatest undiscovered artist to have emerged from Nigeria and the entire globe. Wizkid has 16.1 million Instagram followers and 12.3 million Twitter followers, which attest to his notable qualities. What a success!

The musician who received five nominations out of ten categories for the 2022 Headies Awards emerged victorious. All thanks to the worldwide hit song “Essence,” which features Tems, and his Made in Lagos album. Wizkid was appointed as the United Bank for Africa’s (UBA) 2019 image envoy.

Wizkid has two mansions: one in Atlanta, Georgia, and one in Lekki, Lagos, both valued at N140 million.
