Without Tinubu’s assistance, What We Do To Ensure Igboho’s Freedom – Prof. Akintoye

Prof. Banji Akintoye, the leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, a movement for the self-determination of the Yoruba people, has described how the organization and others were able to secure the release of Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho from Benin

Akintoye spoke amid rumors that President Bola Tinubu played a role in the liberation of the Igbo

This came after the author begged for Tinubu’s help in a widely shared video, just like he did in the case of the Igboho, to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom as the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra

“This is in response to the viral video of an Igbo militant leader, proclaiming that Nigerian Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu should release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, just as he (President) has released Chief Sunday Igboho,” stated Akintoye through his spokeswoman, Gani Alagbala

“Even so, we won’t hold it against our Igbo brothers or criticize them in any way for wanting Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the IPOB, to be free

But we need to correct the record. Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Igboho, is our frontliner, and the Nigerian government and administration, under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had nothing to do with his release or complete freedom

“We give the credit to the All-Powerful God, then to our leadership’s efforts in this Yoruba nation battle, which were helped by kind friends both at home and abroad. It had been a long and difficult journey, but we praise God for finally allowing us to achieve Sunday’s freedom

“We vehemently refute any involvement of any politicians or government officials from Nigeria in any of these processes, simply because there was none. We want to express our gratitude to the Republic of Benin’s government for upholding our right to justice despite some political pressure
