LET’S TALK!! Which song, “Essence” by Wizkid or “Unavailable” by Davido, deserved a Grammy Award more?

Both Davido and Wizkid have achieved notable success, however they were not nominated for Grammy Awards. In keeping with the Grammy tradition of nominations and wins.

Wízkid’s “Essence”

  • Nominated for Best Global Music Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
  • Unfortunately, “Essence” lost to Arooj Aftab’s “Mohabaat” for the award.

Davído’s “Unavailable”

  • Nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
  • The award was claimed by South African artist Tyla for her song “Water,” leaving “Unavailable” without a win.

It’s evident that the Recording Academy has continuously supported music with strong cultural essence and transcontinental instrumentals in the worldwide categories when comparing the Grammy nominations and results for both artists.

The Grammy pedigree also matters a lot because musicians typically gain their popularity gradually through a combination of nominations and wins. Given that the Academy favors traditional folk material in the worldwide categories, Davido’s Grammy loss may not come as a surprise.

In conclusion, despite not winning the Grammy Award, Wizkid’s “Essence” had a greater level of international awareness than Davido’s “Unavailable,” despite the fact that both songs had made a big impression in their respective categories.

Both musicians are still on their Grammy road, and if they are consistent, their moment might still come.
